Early in March I planned a 'city escape' with a friend of mine and we sneaked away to the
Breedekloof Wine Valley. We found a quaint self-catering cottage tucked away amongst the scenic vineyards at the foot of the Cedos and Sidouw mountains in Rawsonville. Birdsong woke us in the mornings and at night we were making a fire under starry skies.
Our accommodation was very central and we could easily go on our daily adventures and explore the scenic Slanghoek valley with vineyards stretching as far as the eye can see. As wine lovers we were in paradise discovering new wines daily at different boutique wine farms as well as private cellars.
We visited Dwarsberg known as a Trout Hideaway situated on the banks of the Holsloot river. The setting was idyllic with luscious green lawns rolling onto the river's edge against a backdrop of majestic mountains. Dwarsberg is also the perfect setting for an intimate wedding amidst nature.
At Kirabo we were welcomed by one of the Le Roux family members who introduced us to their speciality red wines. Cup Cake was my favorite which serves as an ice cream dressing as well, thus a 'dual function'! This is also a wonderful wedding venue for a unique wedding.
We visited Goudini which has now joined with Daschbosch, Groot Eiland and Nuwehoop to form Uniwines. The Goudini Shiraz was one of my favorites together with Daschbosch that was a brand new discovery. We visited DuToitskloof Cellar as well which had a considerable amount of wines to choose from.
Opstal restaurant in the Slanghoek Valley was our choice for a country cousine lunch. The food was mouthwatering and we had splendid views of the valley from the restaurant patio. We had such a great experience that we returned the next morning for breakfast! Opstal is also a scenic setting for a magic wedding.
Jason's Hill Private Cellar was our next stop after Opstal. Here we sipped along and tasted the best of the Family Reserve red wines.
Our four day Break Away in the Breedekloof Wine Valley was an unforgettable experience filled with lots of memorable moments, endless mountain ranges, panoramic valleys, vineyards and various intoxicated palatable flavours!
